Hey everyone! Let’s start with a pretty picture of alpenglow from the balcony of a guest house we stayed in!
I’m very sorry I haven’t posted anything in so long! Obviously the travel log thing isn’t going as well as I’d hoped. I am still recording as we go, but getting things online is a pretty slow process and we’ve been too busy experiencing things to share our experiences. So what I want to do is to try and post something as close to every day as possible. It might just be a note, maybe a few pictures, or a story.
Since it’s been so long I’ll start with an update on what we’ve been doing.
Since we left Winchester we…
- Spent 5 days in Amsterdam
- Stayed with a friend in Hannover, Germany
- Went to Cologne
- Rented a car (which we slept in) and drove around the Rhine Valley for 5 days
- Stayed with a friend in Winningen, a small wine village near Koblenz
- Stayed with a friend in Ludwigsburg outside Stuttgart
- Went to Zurich, almost hopped a train to somewhere with cheaper hotels before being saved by a great guy from couchsurfing
- Got a rideshare to Kussnacht, a little town near Lucerne where we ended up spending the night
- Spent 2 nights in Lucerne
- Took a train to Interlaken where we spent 1 night
- Made our way to a guest house on a mountain in the Bernese Alps and spent 3 nights there (AMAZING)
- Took trains through tunnels and winding railways up mountain valley to Zermatt.
And here’s today’s entry.
We spent the day hiking around the alps near Zermatt, Switzerland. Almost every time we looked up The Matterhorn was looming above us. An impressive sight to be sure! It’s been wonderful spending time in the alps and has definitely reminded us how much we love mountains. But for now my feet are sore (9 hours hiking is a bit much) and I need to figure out what we’re doing tomorrow. So I leave you with a quote from Sarah and a picture:
“I’m not afraid of your alps, I’m rocky mountain bred!”
Love it! Miss you so much.
